Apple
I love apples. In fact, I try to eat one every day; however, I am not always successful, and I don’t really think the keep the doctor away. Another fun Mr. D fact: When I was young, we had apple trees in my backyard--they always seemed to create more mess than good; nevertheless, they were great for chucking at people. My best bud Chad and I would use the apples as hand grenades to throw at construction workers in the subdivision being built behind my childhood home. My favorite apple has always been the honey-crisp variety; however, they always seem to be the most expensive and hit the bank account pretty hard. Nevertheless, many people know of my affinity for apples, so I often get unsolicited apples. |
Baseball
No one seems to collect baseball cards anymore; however, they were a big collectible when I was younger. I lived in a small town, but we had TWO baseball card shops. Really? How was a town able to support two sports collectible shops? Well, I guess it wasn’t because they are now both closed. My father and I would bond over sports cards. He was a big baseball fan, so, in turn, his son had to become one as well. My father and I spent countless vacation hours roaming smoky and dimly lit card stores in search of a good pack. My mother could go shopping for clothes, and we went shopping for cards. In fact, my buddy Chad and I often sold our own cards at sport card shows. We would rent a table and sell our wares. It was a bit of a novelty seeing two 12-year-old children selling alongside grown men. |
